Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a passport book or will a passport card work?
We recommend a passport BOOK. While passport cards are valid for land border crossings to Canada, passport books are more versatile and accepted everywhere. If you plan any future international air travel, you'll need the book anyway.
My passport expires in 2027. Do I need to renew it?
No, as long as your passport is valid through our trip dates (July 27 - August 2, 2026), you're all set! Canada doesn't require 6 months of validity for U.S. citizens.
I have a name change since my passport was issued. What do I do?
If your name has changed due to marriage, divorce, or legal name change, you'll need to apply for a new passport using Form DS-11 and provide legal documentation of the name change (marriage certificate, divorce decree, or court order).
Can minors (under 16) apply for passports?
Yes! Minors must apply in person with BOTH parents/guardians present. If one parent cannot attend, a notarized consent form (DS-3053) is required. Minor passports are valid for 5 years.
